MAPS COMING SOON!
Following on from the second route
(Grangemill to Newhaven) - here is a mixed section of old lanes / RUPPS and
roads.
Having emerged at the end of Route 2 - you need to turn right onto
the A515 toward Buxton. Pass the Junction towards Winster / Pikehall and head
along the road until you pass the "Jug and Glass" pub on the left.
On the Right about 200 yards further on is the start of Green Lane GR: SK156616
This starts as a two tracked, hard, compacted limestone track. Careful as
you go - about half a mile or so you'll cross the High Peak Trail. Straight
on and the track turns into a grassy track into some woods. Eventually, after
some muddy sections in the dip you'll emerge at the junction of a road...
GR:SK178627 - Turn Right and hea along for about 500 yards until the
entrance to Kenslow Farm appears on the left at GR:SK177612. Go through
the gate - obviously (like all gates) closing it afterwards. Watch for cows
and head down, bearing left towards the farm. At the point where you almost
enter the farmyard turn right.
Head along and through the gate until you come to a sort of junction just
after passing a large tree. Make sure you bear to the left - through a gate
onto Whitfield Lane.
Follow this until you come to a road junction at GR:SK191631 - turn
Right and down into Middleton. At the road junction in the centre - turn left
and follow the road for about 2 miles until it joins onto the B5056 (I think!)
- Turn right to come into Youlgreave.
Go through Youlgreave - on through Alport and all the way down until you meet
the A6. Turn Right immediately onto the old dual carriageway (that is now
a single lane calmed section) - and follow the A6 for about half a mile until
after a sharp right hand bend you'll see a track heading off to the left.
If you've reached Rowsley, you've gone way too far. Its at GR: SK248659
and heads up and round to the left - lots of large limestone cobbles before
it flattens out onto a muddier flatter track. This is Nether Haddon.
You'll eventually come ot a junction (as shown) - make sure you go right at
GR:SK242668 - down about three hundred yards where you need to bear
sharp left down to a gate. Through the gate makes a good break stop for a
drink.
Off again - you'll pass Coombs Farm - through three gates before emerging
back onto Coombs road and a metalled surface again.
As you come into the outskirts of Bakewell you'll pass the carpark on your
left before coming to the junction of the next road. Station Road heads up
to the right - go up it and round to the left until you come to the entrance
to the old station yard. Turn Right up toward the golf course and follow the
track up through the woods until you emerge on the high tops overlooking te
surrounding area. Excellent views.
A slight deviation if you wish: At GR:SK234696 you an bear right down
a small track that brings you down through Edensor. After passing through
Edensor - turn left along the road out of the Chatsworth Estate over the cattle
grid and up the hill. At the top you can bear left towards Pilsley. Head along
until you come to the junction into Pilsley opposite the farm Shop Entrance.
Otherwise, carry on down the road until you hit the next road and turn right
into Pilsley to come down to the same junction where the farm shop entrance
is on the Right. Head Left into Pilsley and down to the Devonshire Arms (Good
place for a drink or grub)
Turn left at the Devonshire Arms and follow the road up for about 120 yards
until it becomes a track again. Over the brow of the hill at GR:SK238710
you must turn right down the narrow and steep bumpy track (some muddier bits)
until you go through one gate to emerge on the A619 (Bakewell to baslow road
- known as the "thirteen bends". Opposite to the right about 50
yards down is the start of the old Hassop lane through a gate marked "unsuitable
for motors". This is a RUPP -
and is the old road into Hassop. It goes through quite afew gates on its route
- plus a stream and a fairly rocky section before emerging, finally at GR:SK223722
in Hassop.
